RIOT
AT THE HYATT
12 Sports Presents

Promoter Jerry Hoffman went 17-0 tonight in Monterey
with another Riot At The Hyatt. Although the 17th boxing show
promoted by 12 Sports Promotions started with a few problems before
the doors opened; it ended with a full house of boxing fans greatful
to Jerry Hoffman once again.
Four bouts of California's "BEST" played
out like a ball rolling down hill. Plenty of momentum. Juan Elissa
and Israel Sandoval started the night off. Non-stop action between
these two fighters ended at the halfway mark of round 4 on a cut.
The score cards gave Sandoval the win.
The second bout between two unbeaten Lt. Heavy
weights, Toshi Kawata (3-0) and Richard Paige (1-0). These guys
went at it non-stop for four rounds fighting to a split decision
draw. Later in the evening it was reported that an error was made
in the scoring and the win was given to Paige.
Bout three was all female. Carina Morino (6-0)
and Yvonne Caples (7-6-2). Caples, the former IFBA Light Flyweight
Champion had just come back from Japan where she fought to a draw
attempting to win her title back. Moreno didn't care if she had
just fought Ali to a draw; Moreno was there to prove she was the
best 109lb female fighter in the world. So far she's proven her
point. Caples, a south-paw, tried to confuse Moreno by coming
at her from different angles but Moreno circled to her left and
quite frankly beat Caples to a pulp. First with a body attack
and by round five landing head shots at will. Moreno won all 8
rounds by all three judges. Moreno, in my opinion, is the best
109lb female boxer in the world. Her record now stands at (7-0).
Morino is trained by Rick Noble.
Ryan Davis(17-3) trained by Max Garcia and Jesse
Martinez(6-16) finished the show off fighting to a unanimous decision
in favor of Davis. You could tell right away that the time Davis
had spent with his new trainer Max Garcia is paying dividends.
Davis was large and in charge the entire fight. Davis at any point
beyond round five could have stopped Martinez but decided to get
the rounds in beating Martinez down to the point of a K.O., backing
off and beating him down again and again. Davis and trainer Max
Garcia seem to be off to a very good start. Max Garcia is one
of the best in the business and proved it once again tonight.
